Your legacy to Loughborough...
The gift of education
"It takes a noble person to plant a tree that will one day provide shade for those whom he may never meet" (Anonymous)
In 1935 Annie Thompson became the first person to leave a legacy to Loughborough. Her gift helped to provide scholarships to those who wanted to study at Loughborough; a munificent act which remains especially poignant today.
Since then, the University has been honoured to receive legacies from alumni and friends who believe that the next generation of students will benefit from an enriched Loughborough experience.
Making a Difference
If you are updating your Will, or making one for the first time, we hope that you will consider making a charitable gift to Loughborough and help us to further this remarkable institution.
Legacy gifts to Loughborough are of huge importance and have an invaluable impact on every aspect of the University. You may wish to leave a legacy to be used at the discretion of the University. These gifts are especially valuable as they can be applied to meet the most pressing needs and highest priorities at the time the gift is received.
Alternatively, you may prefer to direct your gift to a specific area, for example: student support and an enriched student experience, academic staff and research, the campus facilities and estate or the endowment fund.
There are several ways of including a gift to Loughborough University in your Will, you might choose to leave a pecuniary legacy specifying the precise amount, or a residual legacy expressed as a proportion of your estate remaining after other bequests have been honoured. It is possible to change a Will at any time by adding a codicil which stipulates any amendments you wish to make to the original. Your solicitor will be able to help you with the exact wording.
A legacy to Loughborough University, no matter what size, is greatly appreciated and truly valued.
By planning ahead you can ensure your estate is organised in line with your wishes. Sharing your intentions with us will allow us to thank you and recognise your gift appropriately and ensure that we fully understand how you would like your gift to be used.
Any information you share with us is treated in strict confidence, is in no way binding, and does not commit you to a particular course of action.
We cannot emphasise enough how grateful we are for the gifts we receive.
The Thompson Circle Launch
On 22 June 2013, we were delighted to launch the Thompson Circle with a special afternoon tea party on Hazlerigg lawn.
The afternoon was hosted by the Vice-Chancellor whose remarks focused on recent developments at the University and the Thompson Circle. Guests also had the privilege of listening to Alumnae and talented Harpist, Madeleine Buckley. The afternoon concluded with a tour of campus.

"As one of Loughborough's alumni or a friend of the University you may, like me, be honoured to be associated with such a great institution. I feel my gift to the University is an appropriate way of showing my gratitude to Loughborough, to ensure that those who come after me are able to have the same life-enhancing opportunities that I had" Hal Perkins Handicraft (3 Yr Dip) (1956-1959)
