Loughborough Alumni Challenge Weekend 2012:
the winner is…

Alumni travelled from all over the country to re-live their Loughborough experience during the third annual Loughborough Alumni Challenge Weekend, 4-6 May.

With over 200 Alumni playing in a variety of different sports against the current students teams, the weekend has become one of the biggest alumni sporting events in the country.

It all started off with a drinks reception in JC’s followed by queue jump into  ‘Alumni FND’, which was enjoyed by all.

On Saturday morning, battle commenced: alumni vs students across a range of sports! Following the tough competitions alumni and students met in JC’s to relax , enjoy a well-earned hog roast – and hear who would be announced the champion of the alumni challenge 2012!

The results: IMS

This year was the 2nd year of the Alumni IMS Challenge which saw alumni return to take on alumni and students from various halls.

The six-a-side football tournament was dominated by Royce students! With alumni teams from both Royce and Rutherford there were 8 teams playing in total – it was good to see an increase in numbers after the launch of IMS last year.

Congratulations again to Royce students for winning this years cup!

So after 2 years of student domination, 2012 marked the Alumni the overall champion and winner of the challenge cup! Rebecca Bridger the current SU president presented the challenge cup on behalf of the students to the alumni representative David Goss (President 2009-2010).

Following the presentation, the guests enjoyed an exclusive Hey Ewe in room one!

This year we are delighted to announce that the event raised over £1,500 which the Alumni Association will donate to the sports clubs as thanks for their hard work and effort in helping to co-ordinate such an enjoyable and successful weekend.  A special thanks go to the AU club chairs who did a fantastic jobs in coordinating the teams!
