  
On Tuesday 6th July 2010, Engineering alumni, sponsors and guests met in the Stewart Miller Building for the official unveiling of this year’s Formula Student car.
Each year Loughborough University students are challenged to design and build a single seat racing car and compete in a series of static and dynamic events. One of UK’s premier Formula Student teams is Loughborough University’s LUMotorsport.
LUMotorsport team is made up of students studying a wide range of different degrees, ranging from Automotive Engineering to Finance and Business Management. The team is organised and operated by the students with guidance from the academic and technical staff only when required. The team is not only responsible for producing a brand new car every year, but also all finances, health and safety, as well as the business side of running a motorsport team.
At the launch the guests had the opportunity to hear how the car was designed and built, and could discuss with students their racing plans for the season. See here for photographs of the launch.
The cars first test was at Silverstone on the weekend of July 17th – 18th where the team experienced mixed results. The Sprint event was successful, with LUMotorsport managing 16th overall and the 3rd UK University.
This placed them in a good seeding for Sunday's Endurance event. The team managed four laps of the event, averaging 63 second laps, placing us 3rd overall. Unfortunately this was short lived, as they were forced to retire through rear calliper failure.
The next event is FSDE, held at Hockenheim, from the 3rd until the 8th of August. We look forward to updating you on LUMotorsports progress at this event.
