Alumnus, Ross Kemp is travelling up and down the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, to gain lifeguards’ feedback, in time for Asap’s global product launch in Summer 2014. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity came about after Asap caught the attention of Virgin boss Richard Branson, when Ross won investment on the BBC tv show, Be Your Own Boss.

Royal Institute to showcase Leanne's work

Alumna Leanne Rutter’s work, 'Brutally Refined' will be exhibited in the Royal Institute of Oils Painters Exhibition 2013 at the Mall Galleries, London, 11th - 21st December.
This will be the fourth time Leanne’s work has featured in the exhibition. Many congratulations to Leanne on this fantastic achievement!

Alumnus, Adam Taylor, wins 'Inspirational Young Person

Many congratulations to alumnus Adam Taylor, who was named as one of three 'Inspirational Young People' at this year's 'Opening Doors Business Awards', presented by Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg.
Adam worked his way through college and university (including as part of our annual telephone campaign calling team), while also supporting his family. He is now a high-flyer at Airbus.

Loughborough University graduate company Zone3 has already made an impressive name for itself in the UK and is now venturing overseas to new markets.
Founder James Lock first realised the potential for a British triathlon brand whilst studying Architectural Engineering and Design Management at Loughborough. Being an elite triathlete, he identified a gap in the market for a high performance, better fitting product that would help improve speed and comfort.

Chief Executive of Santander UK Ana Botin spoke on the UK economy at a special lecture at Loughborough University yesterday to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the agreement signed with Santander, through its Santander Universities Global Division.
She also met with some of Loughborough’s entrepreneurial graduates - Ross Kemp, Becky White and the team behind Tom’s Fudge - who have benefitted from awards programmes supported by Santander Universities.

Tavare signs contract with Glocestershire

Gloucestershire County Cricket Club is pleased to announce the signing of batsman Will Tavaré on a one-year contract following a successful season with the second XI.
The 23-year-old nephew of former Kent, Somerset and England batsman, Chris Tavaré, will join up with the squad next March following a winter playing in Melbourne.

Loughborough University RAG named best in UK

Loughborough University’s RAG (Raise and Give) society has been named the best in the country.
They beat off competition from universities across the UK to win RAG of the Year at the National RAG Awards. The societies use various methods including street collections, student events and international expeditions to raise money for charity.
Over the past year, Loughborough RAG has raised a total of £1,080,724 which will now be donated to local and national charities.

A new approach to insomnia care

A new project aims to reduce the 11 million prescriptions for sleeping tablets made each year by improving access to cognitive behavioural therapy for people with insomnia.
The joint intervention between the Loughborough University Clinical Sleep Research Unit (CSRU) and Nottinghamshire Healthcare will design an optimal care pathway for NHS patients, and provide a model of best practice for the treatment of patients with insomnia suitable to roll out throughout the NHS.

The Rugby Football League has announced that the England squad will be based at Loughborough University in the build-up to and during Rugby League World Cup 2013.
The England team will arrive in Loughborough in mid-October to commence their preparations for the tournament that will bring together the top 14 rugby league teams in the world to compete over five weeks in venues across England, Wales, Ireland and France.

Design alumnus shortlisted for prestigious award

Design graduate Ross Kemp is one of only five finalists to be shortlisted for the national Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards. Ross, who graduated from Loughborough in 2011 with First Class Honours, was selected for the undergraduate award for Asap Water Crafts, an electric powered, one-person water craft he developed during his final year degree project as a more financially viable and sustainable option for lifeguards and the leisure market.

iCITY has today signed its deal with the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), marking a major milestone in the establishment of Loughborough University in London.
The deal secures the long-term future of the former Press and Broadcast Centres on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which will be home to Loughborough University in London.
The new campus will offer a range of full- and part-time postgraduate and executive courses for UK and overseas students. Teaching and research disciplines confirmed to date include business and management, media and communications, digital technologies and sport.

Congratulations to our alumni sport teams, who for the second year running were victorious over their student counterparts at this years Alumni Challenge Weekend.
Over 150 alumni returned to campus between 3 - 5 May to help make this annual sporting event a tremendous success, thumping the current student teams 7-1 in the process!

Loughborough University tops Student Barometer

Loughborough University has been ranked first in the UK by an independent student survey.
The international and UK Student Barometer allows students to give universities feedback on the services they provide. The survey covers four overarching areas: the services provided to students on their arrival, the academic learning experience, the support services available, and the university experience outside the lecture room.
Across all these areas Loughborough came first out of all the participating universities, with over 90% of Loughborough students saying they were satisfied. In addition 92% of the students who took part said they would recommend Loughborough to others considering applying to university.

The Loughborough University Stadium is to stage three qualifying matches for the UEFA European Under 17 Championship this month.
The matches from group 6 of the ‘elite round’ of tournament will see teams from Portugal, Russia and Slovenia competing on campus to qualify for the finals.
